Untreated pre-operative mental illness is associated with poorer bariatric surgery outcomes

Background: Approximately 20% of bariatric surgery candidates are excluded for reasons of mental health. All bariatric patients undergo a pre-operative assessment of suitability, including a mental health assessment.
